ENERGY EFFICIENCY

Insulation Levels – We can used recycled materials as well as chopped fiberglass batt blown into walls, crawl spaces, and roofs.
Sealing Escape Ways – Hiring an energy audit for less than $500 is a way to learn where you are losing energy – seal up holes.
Efficient Heating – Heat pumps, high efficient furnaces, and tankless water heaters.
Plumbing Fixtures – Using efficient fixtures to reduce water & heat waste.
Highly Insulated Windows – A typical house loses 25% of heat through windows, installing windows that have lower U-Factors gives you savings, reduced UV fading and noise reduction.
Efficient Lighting & Appliances – CFL & LED = Compact Fluorescent Lighting & Light Emitting Diode. Energy Efficient Appliances are now the norm on show room floors.

SUSTAINABLE MATERIALS

We specify materials that have a high-recycled content, well managed and renewable sources. Some examples:

Bamboo – fast growing
FSC Wood – Well managed resources. Buildings use 25% of all wood. FSC wood is the highest level of sustainable certification.
Cork – Is harvested every 9 years without harm during the 200 year life of the tree.
Countertops – Paperstone is an example of countertops made from recycled paper plus a water based petroleum free resin. Novustone has a low carbon concrete formulation. Squak Mtn has high recycled content of glass and paper in the low carbon substrate.
Tiles – Local company Bedrock has glass tiles that are 100% recycled content.
Quartz Countertops – Recycled made from soft drink bottles.

INDOOR AIR QUALITY

Integral part of being green.

No or Low VOC – Indoor pollution can make people sick, using paints and wood finishes that are no or low Volatile Organic Compounds to reduce off-gases is important.
Sources & their pathways – Mold from moisture, dust and microbes and chemicals from air, we need to seal up the pathways that lead into our houses.
Ventilation – Done properly every exhaust needs a source of fresh clean air…kitchen, bath, whole house. Insulate tight & ventilate right using a heat recovery system, is the best way to save heat before its exhausted out.
Air Cleaning – Good filtration on your furnace. Selecting a well made “basket” style HEPA Filter ($200) only needs changing every 5 years. Getting your ducts cleaned annually is important as well.
